as he said, he's making fibreglass moulds, so body panels will cost pretty much the same no matter what chassis he decides to go with.
Since it sounds like you're thinking of professionally competing (?) you might want to check the laws regarding engine conversions - put a gze in there, and you'll likely find yourself up against hybrid monsters. The 4a-ge, however, was released in the sprinter so you can most probably compete in a lesser category.
