Me too.
November for me. So I can't tell you the answer, but i can tell you this. I'm in Sydney, and have a letter from the RTA dated 15/12/01 saying:
"If you wish to resume driving once your period of disqualification expires, you must attend a motor registry and complete a licence application form. You will need to provide proof of identity documents and pass a knowledge test of the road rules. If your licence has expired or you were disqualified for two years or more, you will also be required to pass a driving test. You will be issued with the same type of NSW licence that you held when the disqualification was imposed. However, unrestricted licence holders will not be eligible to obtaina gold licence"
This would, surprise surprise, contradict the information you have been given. 
In another section it mentions that if you hold a licence from another state, and your disqualification was imposed by a NSW court "you will need to contact the licensing authority in you rhome state and make arrangements to surrender the licence" (not that that helps much)
