Rex will restrain himself now but something may escape.
(1) If you cant afford (or can even obtain in the first place) the insurance on two of the easiest and relatively safe engine conversions. What in gods name makes you think that a powerful >1600cc is going to be more insurable. 'Tell im eas dreamin...'
(2) Overpriced 4AGE, are you out of your mind? Rex has seen them go for as little as $400. Tafebum on these very forums got one for $80 complete. $600 worth of DIY rebuild and it's as good as new and ready to do another 100,000+kms.
Rex has never understood the desire to be different when it flies in the face of all sense and reason. There are good reasons why people choose the 'A' family. Because they are a smart & easy choice with much potential.
Bill can do the 3S conversion because he has the skill and funds necessary. Unless you too are similarly skilled or funded please dont butcher another perfectly good AE86 with some hairbrain scheme that will just end up as one more 'abandoned project' in the parts for sale section.
After all that if you still desire Rex's input, how about a 7AGTE. Makes a very good techo project and better still shouldn't require an axe opened firewall etc.
Or better yet, if you want a larger relaible engine, simply do the smart thing and buy a car with a bigger engine.
Be under no allusions about just how good a 4AGE can be. Rex has seen a few 180hp or so 4AGE's. And then there is bills 220hp 4AGE. Make no mistake that is a fair amount of grunt for an AE86 without turning it into an unbalanced and overpowered piece of shit.
One day Rex hopes to own another AE86 and if he finds out there are none left, he will rain shlphur upon those responsible, that goes too for you boneheads smashing/drifting them into the write-offs category.
Rex will leave it at that for now, but just use your brain and be reasonable.
