The advantages of an LSD are pretty simple: you can get the power to the ground through both driven wheels, instead of just lighting up one wheel every time you nail it!
Getting an LSD into an early Celica is a popular topic of discussion around here, so instead of rehashing an old topic once again, please do a search and read up on what's already out there.
The 3T-GTE came in quite a few cars in the early 80's, including the Celica, Carina and Corona.
