It is my understanding that a pulse damper on a fuel rail feed is placed there to attempt to maintain a constant pressure in the rail to ensure accurate fuel delivery. It is particularly important on an EFI system where all injectors are fired simultaneously (rather than sequentially), as the sudden surge of fuel leaving the rail will momentarily drop the rail pressure before the injectors close again. In reality this all happens so fast that you may not be able to measure a difference, but as a realtime test, squeeze the rubber fuel line just before the pulsation damper with your fingers, and see if you can feel the fuel pulsing in the hose as the injectors open and close.
What i've always wondered is why it is often recommended to upgrade fuel line diameter to increase fuel flow, when the damper itself 'looks' to be a huge restriction in its design?!?
