ed_ma61 Forums Junkie Location: Lost in the K hole Registered: May 2002	Re: rod length info needed Mon, 17 May 2004 08:24 the longer skirt is usually related to the side loads required to be borne by the skirt due to the approach and departure angles of the rod. perhaps the 3s has longer skirts to withstand the loads it will suffer as a consequence of its high rpm nature? either way, i doubt it is the skirts that dictate those redline figures. more likely it is the design of valve train componentry of the 3s: the 5s's gear may not be designed to cope with high rpm use. the intake, valves and ports of the 5s may not support high rpm use either. maybe the rods and crank are of different construction? plenty of other things to restrict rpm in that situation me thinks [Report message to a moderator]
