not true... how hot do you think a block gets?

any decent enamel paint will do fine.

secondly re: rust protection - use lanogaurd spray. dont bugger about painting rods ffs! Laughing

water jacket scale/corrosion/debris? just keep rinsing and washing. get a fine gun barrel/bore brush in there if it looks totally fuct up. screwdrivers work too.

do you suspect the engine was buggered? get it crack tested if suspicious.
