Someone on these forums modified a ZZ motor to RWD configuration and used a T50 box for use in a Locost. It required the fabrication of an adaptor plate to mate the box to the block. Not hard, just tedious.

There's some photos and a writeup of the process at http://locost7.info/mirror/1zzfe_adaptor.php for reference.

$4k sounds about the going rate for a 2ZZ-GE unfortunately. 1ZZ-FE on the other hand could be had for ~$1.5k. If you're buying one make sure you get ALL of the loom plus the ignition barrel and original key (ECU integrated anti-theft). Getting a replacement key supplied and recoded is apparently a several hundred dollar exercise Shocked

Another possible source for these engines is statutory write-off's at the insurance auctions. Recent model cars that are stat W/O (ie not able to be re-registered) often sell around the $1.5k mark or less apparently. Obviously there aren't many 2ZZ Celica's there but it's worth a look.

Hope this helps,

Dominic
