basically you need to isolate what the problem is...
this may sound stupid, but how did you check the oil level?
must be in neutral (or is it park?) and engine idling. when you take out the dipstick (after wiping first) MAKE SURE that the oil is on BOTH SIDES of the dipstick!!!!!!!!!
i cannot stress this enough
my poor little brother made that mistake with his elantra... $4000 later.......
$1K is for disassembly... it's a lot of labour to pull apart an auto box.
what is the history of the box? did it used to go? made absolutely sure it has oil on both sides of dipstick when engine idling?
find a friendly auto box mechanic to come and look at it for you in return for a few beers after work

ooohhh a personal attack hey? yeah well at least I know its park you KEYBOARD WARRIOR! leave me alone I don't comement about your crap!
prator sorry about hijacking the thread but anyway
It could be something like an Incorrectly adjusted selection cable or a Incorrect or contaminated transmission fluid as well what is it like in Drive range? as it could also be an inncorectly adjusted kickdown cable,or the cable is disconected unless you know a fair bit about autos I don't recommened you take the tranny out and try and give it a overhaul yourself as extensive knowledge and equipment is required

couldn't your google search find any info on that!
