DAMAGE PICS Wed, 19 May 2004 08:07 Luke you are pretty lucky. You can actually see the damage from where the diff/uni have been intermittently hitting the body in one of the photos. I suspect lowering the car has brought the tailshaft very close to the top of the transmission tunnel at resting height. Potentially with any savage bump (or axle tramp with burnouts) the tailshaft and uni will have hit the body. I had the same problem with the Corona when I lowered it - I drilled a small hole and used a slide hammer with a screw attachment to pull the body away from area of contact. The other thing I would do is investigate what pinion angle you are running. Ideally for a multilink setup like that in the Crown you should be running no more than 3 degrees. Any more than this and you will have the tailshaft unis running odd angles and have vibrations thru the drivetrain. I suspect with the savage lowering job you did plus the custom gearbox crossmember, you may have really put this out a mile. Get a magnetic roofing protractor (from Bunnings - $20-30), place it on the 7M crank pulley and the diff pinion face and measure the angles from vertical. Subtract diff angle from the crank angle and that's your pinion angle. To get it into range, you could shim the gearbox up or down, or get some adjustable upper control arms for the diff (from Noltec). [Report message to a moderator]
