I think that just reflects how stupid toyota factory parts pricing is,not that sprinter owners are whingers for not wanting to pay two grand for essentially twenty year old rear end that will have about three hundred thousand hard kms on it.
why pay so much when you can get a hilux rear or a commodore/skyline borg warner modified to fit for less money, and with more strength?
I fully accept that older, rare parts will cost a premium, but some of the stuff is a bit ridiculous.
Nearly all the older parts that are still listed as available are well overpriced.
one example from work on thursday: '90 model tarago. it needed new front discs as they were undersized. toyota wanted $610 EACH,ex japan. a pair of DBAs were $81.60 each.
no prizes for guessing which discs went on the car.
a week before that,an SV21 camry needed 4 shocks. O/S F was no longer available,but the N/S F was,at $400 odd,again,ex japan.
rears were $300 odd each, but at least they were in Australia,so we could have them the next day if we'd wanted them.
Pedders wanted $90 odd each for the fronts, and $130 ea. for the rears. the pedders shocks went in,both because they were less than a quarter of the price, and because toyota could only supply units for one side of the car on the front.
it's another way of the factory's to encourage you to buy a new car...
Justin...
