Thu, 20 May 2004 09:00 Coating the manifold should prevent the material from fretting on every cool down cycle - note 304 stainless will fret as well. 316 will not. Fretting = the surface oxidising and coming off in a very fine layer. It does this time and again until there is no metal left. Manifold should be coated internally and externally - ceramic is best.
