I have been absolutely flat out with work, but the drivetrain is essentially complete.

I have fitted 287mm front disc brakes, a Hilux diff and am waiting for the tailshaft at the moment. All the mounts are complete. I am about 3/4 of the way thru wiring - I'm only able to do a bit here and a bit there due to work. Thankfully after tonight I'll have a full week away from work so I expect to get it all done and running - well as soon as I make a return line.

The other major job is the rack and pinion conversion. I'll be farming this out - I don't have the time, patience or brainulence to work out all the angles etc. Hopefully it will be a power rack so the steering will be light enough for my wife to drive it.

Once the rack and pinion is sorted the last thing is to setup the auto column linkages. I have already worked out what is required so should be pretty straight forward - just a bit of fabricating. Anyway, that's a shit load easier than trying to source an auto column for one of these things. The main issue I had was that the majority of auto columns are from 1960 to 1966 - the problem is that the order of the gears on the indicator is all wrong and doesn't coincide with what is going on in the box (D on the indicator would actually be reverse Laughing). In 1967, the newer Toyglide box was released which has the more conventional positions (PRND2). Of course this column is only found in the car that had a release period of 9 months. I did find one after a year of looking.

Because it will be a tow car, I'll be getting some air shockers for the back. Because I'm intrinsically lazy, I'll be fitting the air pump and air storage tanks from the Crown halfcut's air suspension to pump those up as required from the comfort of the cabin.

Once it is running and I become energetic again, I will set up the AC. If anyone knows the whereabouts of a 40 series Crown with factory airconditioning anywhere in Australia, I will buy the car as is on spec.
