hi chris,
sorry you day went from bad to worse ...
i was going to suggest water pump - as usually the carbon-seal bearings make a gawdawful squeal when they're stuffed. is there any leakage from the pump's weep hole (should be hole in the casting on underside of pump.
did you try disabling coils/plugs one-at-time to see if tappet noise goes with the low-comp cylinders?
i'm assuming that this is the third recent bad thing, hence you're now due for 3 good things...?
maybe on next visit to mechanic, you set rev limiter to 2k ?
