I took the belt off the water pump and the noises were the same so I don't think it is that. I will check this hole though.
We took the plugs off the coils one at a time and there was still tapping noise on each one.
Just have a standard ECU so I can't set a rev limiter.
I will be doing a leak down test in the next couple of days and hopefully that should narrow down the problem but it is certainly looking internal at the moment.
and BTW I will not be going back to that mechanic again! Which is a shame because he has done decent work for me at a decent price since I got my Corona but from now on, if there is a problem I am going to fix it!
