To increase volume I like to add wings to the side of the sump, using the original pan sides and louvering them before adding the wings. The increase in surface area of the sump that it exposed to the moving air does wonders for keeping oil temps in check (I have not done this to a 4A yet). The wings should also be made to enhance oil flow towards the pick up.
I also suggest that the wings should not be made too high (tall), but more or less just above the oil level, when engine is running.
The 4A GE has one of the best factory windage trays that I have personally seen, I therefore see little to be gained in that area.
I am not a fan of the fancy baffles that one sees on occasion (trap doors etc.)
