W55-W58's will fit on a 1G engine with the right bellhousing. The bellhousing you got with the GE should fit any of these. W50 or T50's won't fit unless you get a housing made which is stupid. W58 gearboxes have 3 different stick positions. I have the one from a 1GGTE (not sure what car) and it has the back position, this is further back than the original w%) gearbox sits and you have make the hole a bit bigger, also, any of these boxes will need a slightly modified gearbox crossmember. The far back position is the best for the RA28 I think as it sits nicely next to the seat.
The W57 from RA60 celicas is a long way forward and is almost out of reach with the seat right back.
Maybe one of the other W58 stick positions would fit in the original hole?
