It all makes sense, and sounds like a well reasoned approach. The resonator box in the air intake ducting only serves to reduce induction noise, it gives no benefit to power or economy, so you can toss the thing.
Any mod that gets cooler outside air to the filter is worth doing, just don't expect any huge difference in performance from the seat of the pants dyno.
