Your 5M probably needs a lot more than a headgasket and seals by now. You say it's been like this for a while so there's a good chance some of your cylinder head has eroded away - and that means it's pretty much a basket case. I've seen it before. 
You're nuts spending money on that engine anyway, this is the perfect excuse for a 5M/6M-GE conversion - or maybe something even better!
