Mate, take it from an old bloke who still has a head, only buy that helmet if the person is someone you trust with your life (because that's what we're talking about, right?), and you know the entire history of the helmet.
That is, do not buy it if it is a second-hand, second-hand helmet. Only consider it if your "trusted" person bought it new and has never had a car crash or fallen of a motor bike with it on, or has even dropped it when carrying it.
Trust me, your head ain't worth it.
Be patient and save up for a new one if you don't know the full history of the one you are considering - just don't by that set of name-brand brake calipers, leather steering wheel or wanky bonnet-mounted gauges for a few months, and you'll have the cash.
Good luck!
