i've heard of kits (possibly jaycar, almosty definitely in some silicon chip mag) that allows you to vary the flashing rate, and it is based on a timer, not a current/thermal can device..
someone from these forums has one and mentioned it some time (in last 6 months?), so a search is in order
btw, how are the LED's for brightness and viewing angle? is there a diffuser in front of it? what mcd and how many LED's etc etc (if you don't mind me asking)
