Robbie,
Mate don't take this the wrong way but forget your engine plans and learn to drive the car first. Getting a feel for a low powered TA22 will be the best place you can start.
The old 2T is a tough engine and wil handle just about all you can dish at it, You would be MUCH better off by getting the rest of the car sorted out first. A good suspension package really transforms the car and I would lay even money that your steering box, tie rod ends and all underbody rubbers are in need of attention. Spending your dollars in this area would yield you a much better result than just dropping in a 2TG.
Being new to the Game you probably don't realise that a stock 2TG only makes 12hp more than your stock 2T. Sure they rev nicer and pull a bit longer but until you show then some attention ($$$) they are still pretty uninspireing. If you 2T is really lack luster $20 says your secondarys don't open. I have had more TA22's than I am years old (I'm 29) and I have only bought 1 that the secondary still worked in. Chepest fix is a 32/36 downdraft webber off a 2 litre ford escort or Cortina. Most carby specialists will be able to sell you an adaptor plate for this swap (about $30) and see if they can sell you or even fit the linkage set up go with it.
Thats your best starting place. A better safer ride and a properly running 2T can yield plenty of fun. Getting more power into the old girl is a small part of increasing the fun factor.
