INcreasing the boost to 12psi isn't really possible on one of these, you will find that you hit boost cut sometimes (if not all the time). About 11-11.5psi is the maximum, as sometimes it will spike and you'll think you blew it up
Check the torque on the head bolts before you do anything else. Take it to a mechanic, and ask them to retorque it - I think the figure is 72 ft-lbs but please don't quote me on the exact figure.
While the car is at the mechanic, get them to do a full service including fuel filter, oil, oil filter, spark plugs, timing, etc. as well as any other routine servicing (eg timing belt if it's due).
Then, I would look at getting a full 3" exhaust system (not just a 'cat back') exhaust. This is your biggest power upgrade on a basic setup, and is probably worth about $900 give or take a little depending on how pretty you want it.
Once this is done, get a bleed valve fitted, and you are probably safe to run up around the 11psi mark as I said. I would not increase the boost without doing the exhaust first - one because the exhaust will strangel the power gain, and two because the exhaust housings on these turbos are known to crack and the restrictive exhaust dump won't be helping this.
A K&N (or similar) filter in the standard airbox should be your next modification.
