sounds like coil wiring to me. there is a wire that connects to the dizzy from the coil, it screws into the dizzy at the same point where the dizzy/point condensor goes. had the same problem and that wire was stuffed.
also the solenoid may be the issue too, what you can try is while trying to start it get someone to lightly knock the solenoid (dont hammer it), if you dont want to try that and you wanna check if its faulty then un screw it and with reds on plug/unplug it and you should hear a ticking noise, ie, the solenoid moving forward and back.
if that fails then it really does sound like coil resistor overheating and failing, once resistor cools it starts (MOST LIKELY CAUSE OF PROBLEM)
as for everything else the guys are right, cant be starter as it is kicking, not alternator as that would prevent car from starting just battery wouldnt charge and no matter hot or cold it wouldnt start after that, cant be fuel as it does start, but do you get any problems while driving? sluggish, jumping, cant floor it. i find with that motor and mine (have an imported 3T carby) that you need to give it a good thrashing for a minute to help clean the carby and combustion chamber out a bit
