I have a Celica RA23 diff assembly in my Corolla, with standard drum brakes. And after doing a few hard laps, I think I was understeering into the corners a bit due to poor rear brakes, and I was holding the handbrake a bit (at 100kph) to get a bit a of rear bias.
I don't like to modify my car too much, but I will be looking at rear disks soon. (Got 266 x 20 disks with hilux 4 spots on the front).
I don't think there are many well written articles on this. Its still a case of find whatever brakes you can, and adapt them any way you can. Just remember that you need a working handbrake.
The easiest thing is to get a whole AE86 GT-Apex rear end. They have LSD and disk brakes, and often 4.3:1 gears. They are not imposiable to get, I think Yahoo or Option1 have one now for $900. There is a couple for sale on Yahoo Auctions Japan also, but you have to get it here somehow.
