Are you using a t50?
If so these will bolt up to the rear most gearbox x-member holes, this is a good starting place, this will give you the required distance, and then from there can modify engine mounts. Will required gear shifter hole cutting depended on the era of the box.
With mine i made extension which welded onto the fron of the standard mounts. However best to probably cut off the mounts an start again.
