The main issues will be parts availability and rust in the sills.

The 7R will have the same problem as the 18R - timing chains need to be religiously serviced otherwise they snap and cause you a world of pain.

You would do well to remove (and store should you ever wish to return it to original) the 7R and drop in an 18RG - should be a bolt up proposition and the old school DOHC wouldn't look too out of place in the engine bay. I have a sneaking suspicion that the 4 speed is an early W40 so a 5 speed W50 would work just fine.
