You will have no issues at all if you choose to go manual. Hook up about 4 wires and you're off. If you choose to run the auto, the only issues will be the speed sensor signals. Cambelt and I played with his intact halfcut. The purple and white wire provides the engine and auto ECUs with a 1 pulse per tailshaft revolution signal. We think the black and orange wire going to the auto ECU carries a 4 pulse per revolution signal but will confirm this if someone can supply us with a CRO. You only need one of these signals for the auto to shift properly, but of course the engine light will come on and when you do diagnostics, it will spit out some codes for the speed sensor (I think they are codes in the 60s?). There is a long thread I started about a month or 2 ago about this. Grant (Sixworks) provided extremely useful information and I posted a series of pics showing how to modify the auto to produce the one pulse per revolution signal. For you Sydneysiders and further north, Sideshow sells the 4 pulse per revolution signal generators that plug into the speedo drive for about $150. Here in Melbourne, Ringwood Speedos sell them for about $120-130. [Report message to a moderator]
