We did this years ago (> 15). From memory (which is hazy), we used a 5R from an RS50 Crown, swapped the sumps and we were away. It went better but don't expect tyre sizzling performance (we called ours the "5R funny car" because it would start up in less than 5 seconds).
The 3 mains crank 5R (early) has exactly the same bellhousing bolt pattern so it's a direct bolt up proposition. The later 5 mains 5R are like an 18R so they won't bolt up. Look at your 2R - there is a "cowl" at the back of the block that your 2R and early 5Rs have that the later 5Rs do not.
Also being a truck engine, you might be surprised at the expense of an engine even though it's a shitty old 2 litre.
