It's a shame to lose a life no matter how crap a driver he was or how big a dick-head he was being at the time. But it's a reminder that it would never have happened if he was doing 60.
It comes down to the driver. full stop.
I think the saying "car of choice" is referring to the fact that if you had a choice it would be that. ie: if you were mountain biking and someone saw your bike and said "bike of choice mate" (mine being a Santa Cruz which is not a common bike nor the best but a good choice to have (me biased? nahhh) just like an Evo 6.
Everybody grows up being exposed to different driving conditions. I had the good fortune to grow up on a farm and got my own EH holden when I was twelve. My parents were both very fast drivers which back then you could get away with it especially in the country. But some of us have parents that may drive below the speed limit and only see the road ahead as far as headlights would normally shine on low beam in daylight, in their own lane...and usually are not aware that in some areas the right lane is the fast lane.
Just remember to drive and leave ample room for the unexpected...and Taxis.
