A 4A-C from 1983 to 1986 had 2 valves a cylender, non-crossflow head (found this out recently), SOHC, Bore: 81mm, Stroke: 77mm, Compression ratio of 9:1, 51kw (70hp) and 114nm (85lb/ft).
From 1986 till 1988 they had the same everything, but where a 4A-LC with 54kw (74hp) 115nm (86lb/ft). I dunno if they where even fitted to the Sprinter though.
And yeah, they suck. Don't bother with the 4A-C. Put a 4A-GE in. They rock.
... Actualy, on second thought, avoid sprinters all together. They suck. It takes a lot of work just to get them as good as the JDM AE86, and the JDM 86 is just a realy nice day driver, or a good platform for modification. So you work realy hard just to get it to be a good starting point to work even harder.
