component speakers are exactly what the first word is: components.
Each frequency has its own seperate component. These can sound crap or really good depending on how you install them.
For example,
If you have the tweeter and woofer in the door next to each other it might sound no better than a normal coaxial speaker (woofert with tweeter internally mounted) however, if you were to stick the woofer in the door and the tweeter in the dash/ high in the door, it might sound great...its all relevant to installation!
Component speakers do no suit rear shelf applications...
