I have been told that wax builds up on the injectors over time. My car hasn't been going so great, and still wasn't after changing the fuel filter so I thought i'd try some injector cleaner. Bought a bottle for $10, added half of it to half a tank of petrol. I do actually think my car goes better now, my idle doens't seem as rough, and there seem fewer flat spots - the kind of things i'd expect to be symptoms of having crap on the injectors.
Apparently there are two types of cleaner stuff - an actual 'cleaner' which is a one-off use like what I used, and a 'treatment' which you are supposed to regularly use every so often kms. The latter is most likely bullshit, I agree.
Yeah,I forgot about writing the 'remove fuel cap part'. What you said is exactly what you are supposed to do. My Hayes manual says to start it until stalls from fuel starvation, but with me it wouldn't actually start at all so I just cranked it for 4 seconds or something (then did it again to be sure). I know what you mean about fuel everywhere - when i did the filter, I was parked on a slight slope. I didn't realise that would make the fuel keep comeing out CONTINUOUSLY while i tried to get the f&*^ing lower fitting off and then get the f&*$ing new filter done up tight. Went everywhere!
