Note that diesel engines run massive fuel pressure, as in hundreds of psi. A typical EFI petrol engine will have 35-40 psi fuel pressure, which isn't going to harm anyone. It's still a good idea to release the pressure before you pull the fuel rail off though, just so you don't get a face full of petrol! (Done that, it's not fun).
