The sump doesn't have to come right off the car. Just drop the oil, take all the bolts out and let it sit on the crossmember. The hardest part will be getting the crank pulley off. The tensioner sits down near the sump and is pretty easy to change - only a couple of 12mm bolts from memory. The plunger is the rod that comes out of the tensioner and acts on the chain.
