Will make up a gasket and see if that makes a difference. Ignition timing is perfect, just checked it the other day. Yes, the 18R definitely has a fast idle - I have the appropriate manual. Having had a close look a the shoddy condition of the carb I'm considering going weber. Any particular model Cortina best for the Weber? I'm assuming the 2L is the best option (I know nothing about Fords). Where's the best place to pick up an adaptor plate? God, you can't half tell my other car has fuel injection....
