Its nice to see that only 2 or 3 of the people responding to this actually have crowns.
I've got the 7MGE in my MS53 1968 and with brake mods and driveline mods it owes me at least $8K. I've had gear boxs rebuilt, head done, gone thru 2 diffs, now have an LSD, blew a tailshaft now have one thats 3". Had the fuel tank moded and did all the seals in the block and the gear box. Also had to pay someone to wire the car.
It was a great conversion. Though I'll be doing a 7MGTE conversion soon though.
If you stick with the M's any engine you choose will just bolt straight in using your existing engine mounts.
As said earlier the J's will require at least custom engine mounts and maybe a rack and piion conversion.
I don't think the 1UZFE will fit, from what I heard around here and in Classic Crown forums. I know it doesn't fit in a MS5X I've seen one lowered over a MS5X chassis. Having said all that though I have heard (only heard of not much and haven't seen pics) of a 1UZFE powered MS75 I think.
Then you have to look at what brakes and suspension and driveline mods will cost. Its well and good to say the you can get a 7MGTE for $1400 you have to get it in and running.
Most people here are talking about doing injected conversions. I know a few blokes that are going wild on carbied 2 and 4M's. Dual carbs, boring them to 3L and doing head work. This maybe a viable option to.
Pm or for any info on my conversion
