It could also be a pin hole leak in the alloy body of the water pump, or its alloy backing plate. (found this one the hard way!!)
This can be hard to spot. Took me ages to find it when mine went. You might have to getthe engine up to temperature before it becomes evedent.
I'd have to agree with irally, 90% of the time its the water pump or its o-rings and seals.
The water pumps arnt too hard to change, just bloody fidley.
