Fensport did this to a Corolla in the UK
http://www.fensport.co.uk/fensportcars.htm
I am currently sourcing bits to convert my Caldina to 3S-GTE & 4wd, but option of my car was a 3S-GE & 4wd.
Considering this, here is a list of things to do so I can get the 4wd to work:
Bits to buy:
4wd engine crossmembers (FWD are in the way of tailshaft)
4wd rear suspension complete, including struts
4wd fuel tank
tailshaft
4wd gearbox, front shafts, starter motor
Work required:
cut off brackets holding on current rear suspension
weld in captive nuts to existing holes in rear chassis
drill new holes & weld in captive nuts in rear chassis
bolts everything up
I consider this an fairly "easy" job & is helped by there being a higher proportion of 4wd Coronas & Caldinas than Corollas.
The only late model 4wd Corolla is the wagon, whereas 4wd is an option on any Corona or Caldina, therefore the floorpan is more interchangeable.
My estimate:
gearbox (ST205), front shafts, flywheel, starter motor....$1500
rear suspension (including LSD)...........................$1500
fuel tank.............................................. ...$ 250
front crossmembers...................................... ..$ 300
Welding........................................... ........$????
I'm also planning on an engine change at the same time, so add another $3000 for GenIV 3S-GTE
If you've got the money though, I think it would be an awesome machine
