The only problem I can see with this ( not to say there aren't others ) is lubrication of the compressor. In the air con system the oil that lubricates the compressor flows through the system with the gas and does not just stay in the compressor. This means you would need some sort of system to put oil into the compressor with the air intake and remove it from the air that is coming out.
If you can solve this problem it just might work but then again it might work out cheaper and easier to just go to a 4wd place and buy a compressor kit that drives off the engine.
