Im suddenly feeling very unconfident in this guys abilities.

I had a similar experience when getting my pink slip done for rego earlier this year. Left it to the last minute and got it done by some mechanic who said he worked on all sorts of imports and turbo cars.

Anyways, I currently own a JZA80 '94 Aerotop Supra which unfortunately is non turbo 2JZ-GE equipped. After doing all the usual safety checks, this guy pops the bonnet and looks around for a few minutes before making the idiotic statement:

ahh...ok so this is the single turbo version...

I just about fell over, not only are the 2JZ GTE turbos about the easiest thing to spot in the bay (or not for the NA Supras), but then this guy goes on to tell me that hes done a few single turbo conversions on "those new WRX's that run the twin turbos from the factory setup"!!!!

I did a LOT of research on the Supras while looking for mine, and know what variants came from the factory (there was a single turbo VVT version briefly in late '96) but of all the mechanics, import dealers (especially!!) and so called import car "experts" very few really know much about what they are trying to make their money from.

As such I get my car serviced by a Toyota import specialist out Penrith way (and I live in Lane Cove!) coz I like to trust my mechanic knows what he is talkin about when he works on my car. Laughing
