fergo308 wrote on Wed, 30 June 2004 21:41 | I'm considering a celsior/LS400 for a daily driver/tow car atm.
one question for you: in what way is this car superior to the local LS400 (to justify the ~$5k premium)?
there are half a dozen locally delivered lexus LS400's in the trading post this week, all '93 models (4yrs younger than yours),with similar km to your car,and all are going for less cash, two almost $10k less than your initial ask of $20k.
I'm not trying to be a smart arse here,I'm genuinely curious as to why the import costs more in this case.

A couple of things to bear in mind...
1) The local LS400s are A or B-spec cars. What this means is they lack quite a few of the features of the C and (particularly) the C-F spec cars. (Things like electric rear seats, rear passengers' controls for stereo, A/C etc, TRC and Air-suspension. The LS400 could be looked at as something of a "poverty" pack in comparison.
2) Most of the local cars of similar age have between 200-250,000kms on them. This one has 153,000.
3) I've come back quite a way from the original price - as much a reflection of reality and the fact that the car isn't perfect (it is, after all, 15 years old). So, when looking at an LS400 for around $13-14,000, and considering ours is a few grand dearer (albeit negotiable);Like the web-site says, we've registered it, put new tyres on it, and done a full service (incl. belts, plugs and all fluids). I would hope you would take the above points into account.
It's an OK car, but we already have a "luxury" cruiser in the Cressida, (and we've spent a LOT of money getting the Cress to where it's at - money we'd never recoup). Additionally we are very keen to sell this, and a couple of other vehicles we have, to begin funding our next (and last!) engine conversion project.
So, if you're interested, come and take a look. I'm more than happy to negotiate a price (within reason )
