I thought that they were all gen 1 but could be wrong, maybe someone could clear that up. The second engine is 'not obviously' a gen 3 it could be a 2 or 3. At first glance they look the same. Nark suggests looking at injector plugs and injectors - that is a good guide but is not always correct. There are a number of ways of telling apart the gen 2s and 3s. Bigger outlets on the turbos on the 3, very different exhaust manifolds internally. Big plug on the computer has 26 pins for the gen 3 against 24 for the gen 2. The TPS is also different with one plug for the gen 3 and 2 for the gen 2. The sensors on the engine are also different. The engine number of the gen 3 is on the bit that connects to the bell housing while the gen 2 is on the side of the block. I am sure that there are things that I have forgotten.
