A 32/36 weber off a ford escort/cortina downdraft is the best conversion without overdoing it ... should set you back around $550 for a reco unit fitted.

actually on a stock 4ac these would both probably go like shit at low rpm. they're big carbs designed for >2L engines, and won't have the low down throttle response of the original type carb, it will take a few revs (2500?) before you get decent power. that being said, they'll definately improve power up high, if you get them tuned and jetted properly they won't be too bad down low either
and yes, you can use a 34ADM on a 4ac, hell one of the guys on oldcorollas has one on a cammed 4K and it cracks, bit doughy down low but anything bigger on a 1300 is going to be like that, but i digress
