dam... if oxy sensors were so good as knowing a/f ratio's that the car wouldn't run w/o it then why bother with airflow sensors?!?

'cause (without a map sensor) there's no way the ECU will know what the engine is doing (apart from rpm from the dizzi and throttle position). Different air flows require differing ingition and injection timings.
tho... with ion sensing ignition (it checks result of each ignition/burn event via the spark plug) the ECU could do an even better job of tuning the fuel use and ignition timing during cruise.
