carsanactra wrote on Mon, 05 July 2004 23:49 | i hear people talk about how there is the 7 rib block compared to 4 rib block, but i cant see any ribs on my engine.
i know that some engines can be identified by the cam covers, but ive also heard that these can be changed?
on the 100kw engine, are the spark plugs connected through the black strip in the middle of the cam cover. or is this a trademark of the bluetop 86kw engine?
what are some other ways to determine different engines?

Ribs are on the sides of the block. just count them.
identifying by cam covers is.... well.. identifying what colour the cam covers are not the rest of the motor.
the best way would be to use google (seriously) and find the pages that give you all the details of each engine.. i can think of three or four that you will find easily.
things to look for are
MAP or AFM
big or little port.
TVIS/ no TVIS.
