Does anybody know much about the Toyota Cold Start injector (CSI) or used it to give extra fuel?

I would like to keep the ECU and injectors standard so I am now hoping to operate the CSI off a pressure switch allowing the extra injector to kick in at just over atmospheric pressure.

I have read up on Toyota manual and found that the CSI runs off a time switch and signal from the ECU to determine injector duration (measured in seconds). This means that the injector is a different type i.e. does not operate off "pulses"..instead providing continual flow??? So you could connect this up to a pressure switch operating just over 1psi??

Does anybody know about how much flow a CSI can do and whether anybody has done this successfully?

PS I'm going to pull off the connector to check my car works ok without CSI - it has the AAV thingo aswell for cold start idle up

I would then use the diode trick on the MAP sensor to ignore boost. But then there is no over boost protection so would have to be careful.

Thanks for the help so far!

A suitable pressure switch is an adjustable Hobbs unit (pictured), available from auto instrument suppliers. However, this switch is relatively expensive and a cheaper unit is easily found. Spa bath suppliers stock a pressure-operated switch that is ideal for forced aspirated car use. The pressure switch is designed to work as part of the air-actuated switching system which is used in a spa bath so that bathers don't have to directly operate high voltage switches. The switch triggers at around 1 psi and costs about half that of a traditional automotive pressure switch. If a switching pressure above 1 psi is required, simply tee a variable bleed into the pressure line leading to the switch. Adjusting the amount of bleed will change the switch-on point.
