fade-e Forums Junkie Location: Sydney Registered: June 2004	Re: spraying clear after painting questions Sun, 11 July 2004 08:10 you dont need clear unless you want shine/mirror effect... its an engine bay so not really need to clear, if i do my engine bay colour i will not be clearing cause there is no use, all that shine and effort and what not so it can get dirty, oily, scratched have more mods done, etc etc im leaveing my bay either how it is (orange) or going black and not colour but thats just me, im always the odd one out when it comes to cars all clear needs hardener otherwise it wont dry properly the clear is fully dry in 24hrs cause it is only a couple coats but paint is longer cause there are more coats. now technically all paint will be dry in a couple days for sure BUT the longer you leave it before doing anything the harder and stronger it gets cause there is more time to dry they say 24-48hrs cause after that you can start fitting up stuff or doing other work and it wont smudge the paint but underneath it will still be wet... probably a bad example but think of it like custard, the surface is dry but remove the surface and its still wet underneath, the longer you leave the custard the thicker the dry parts get (make any sense?)
