Hiace is (most commonly) a 1500kg (tare) 2400CC four-cylinder light commercial. When fully loaded ours can tip 3.5t (estimated gross).

Exactly, that's why petrol models (usually earlier 1800cc & 2000cc) often have 5.2:1 or 4.88:1 diffs.

Lots of weight for a small engine to lug away from traffic lights.
