Ed was the recipient, not me.
And I have pulled these boxes apart before, but it was 2 years ago, and I can't remember it.

Either way, I had both a 6cyl W50 and a 4cyl W40 behind my 6mge.
And they both held up fine.

The bearing in the W40 was still the original 4cyl ball bearing style, and it survived.
It only did 7000ish km's before I pulled her in favour of a W57, but it was a VERY harsh 7000km, most shifts were redline, high rpm dumps, almost sidesteping clutch etc etc.

Very strong little box that only cost $40!!
